Musi flood debris blocks Moosarambagh bridge in Malakpet, GHMC yet to act

Two days after Musi River floodwaters receded, debris remains uncleared near Moosarambagh bridge, disrupting traffic and raising safety concerns. GHMC officials cite Bathukkama festivities for the delay in cleanup. Meanwhile, residents of flood-hit colonies along the river continue to face water shortages.

Hyderabad: Even two days after floodwater in Musi River receded, the city administration is yet to clear tonnes of debris and other floating waste materials accumulated near Moosarambagh bridge.

For the past five days, traffic has been restricted on the bridge due to heavy inflows released from the twin reservoirs of Osman Sagar and Himayath Sagar following flooding. The GHMC is yet to repair the bridge and assess if it is fit for traffic movement.

“Based on the GHMC report, the traffic will be allowed.” Malakpet Traffic Inspector, T Ashok Kumar, told ‘Telangana Today’. Till then, traffic diversion is expected to continue.

Construction material, including cement concrete structures, iron grills, and others that were washed away due to severe floodwater at Moosarambagh Bridge, are yet to be lifted and remain piled near the stream.

A senior GHMC official said that the workers were busy with the ongoing Bathukkama celebrations following which the debris lifting was halted. “It will be cleared in a day or two,” the official said.

Nearly half a dozen colonies along the banks of River Musi were affected and the residents who returned to their homes after the flood water receded, are still struggling. Some complained that there was no water supply, either from tankers or tap water, and they are depending on bottled mineral water.
