Hyderabad: River Musi is once again becoming the centre point in the city’s development, with the State government planning 14 new heritage-themed bridges and a link road, which apart from giving the city a makeover, are aimed at resolving traffic issues and addressing urban flooding.
The 15 projects will have five of them being executed by the Hyderabad Road Development Corporation Limited (HRDCL), four bridges being built by Musi Riverfront Development Corporation Ltd (MRDCL) and the remaining infrastructure works being taken up by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA). The estimated cost of these projects is Rs 386.8 crore.
Besides improving infrastructure, the projects will include greenery and amenities along the bridges. Gazebos, designer benches, walking tracks and open gyms will also come up along the banks of the river.
MRDCL Chairman Sudheer Reddy said the river was being rejuvenated as per the vision of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao. “The Chief Minister is committed to restoring the past glory of Musi. His dream is to rejuvenate the river and start boating facilities in it. The transformational journey of the river has started,” Reddy said.
The HRDCL has already invited consultants, architects and other experts to submit designs. Officials said that according to instructions from Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao, the bridges would resemble the culture and heritage of Telangana and Hyderabad.
The shortlisted designs would win cash prizes too. While the first prize would be Rs 2 lakh, the second and third winners would get Rs 1 lakh and Rs 50,000 respectively.
