Naidu launches 100-day Jaladhara–Jalaharati drive for water security
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has called for the Jaladhara–Jalaharati programme to be treated as a challenge, emphasising water conservation and effective implementation across the state. He directed officials to repair canals and tanks during rains, improve groundwater levels, and ensure temple Pushkarinis are filled.
Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday said the jaladhara-jalaharati programme should be treated as a challenge, with a strong emphasis on effective implementation and water conservation across the state.
The CM directed officials to ensure that canals and tanks are repaired even during heavy rains to prevent waterlogging and to take steps to fill all tanks during the rainy season.
“The jaladhara–jalaharati programme should be taken up as a challenge, with a strong focus on effective implementation and water conservation across the state,” Naidu said in a press release.
He said every mandal nodal officer should play a key role in the programme and closely monitor works, including in urban mandals.
Calling for a focused approach, the CM announced the appointment of Annamayya district Collector Nishant Kumar as the nodal officer for the programme.
He said Annamayya district should emerge as a model for water conservation and water security across Andhra.
He also instructed authorities to focus on repairing drains in West Godavari district and noted that improving groundwater levels would reduce the electricity burden.
The CM said the programme should ensure water availability in temple pushkarinis across the state and directed officials to prepare an action plan.
He further emphasised the need for public participation in jaladhara-jalaharati and called for an assessment of the impact of the works being undertaken.
The jaladhara-jalaharati programme is a 100-day initiative launched by the Government of Andhra Pradesh in April 2026 to strengthen water security, improve groundwater levels, and upgrade irrigation infrastructure ahead of summer.
