Naishik Reddy wins singles title at Rs 1 lakh AITA tennis tournament
G. Naishik Reddy of Telangana won the singles title at the Rs 1 lakh AITA tennis tournament in Hyderabad, defeating M. Theertha Shashank. In doubles, Krishna Teja Raja and Pranav Mahesh emerged champions, while Naishik trains under Olympian J. Vishnuvardhan
Hyderabad: G. Naishik Reddy of Telangana won the singles title, defeating M. Theertha Shashank 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 in the final of the Rs 1 lakh prize money AITA tennis tournament here.
Earlier in the quarterfinal, fourth-seeded Naishik scored a 4-6, 7-6 (4), 6-2 win against eighth-seeded Manish Ganesh of Karnataka and shocked second-seeded M.K. Tharun Vikram of Tamil Nadu with a 6-2, 6-2 win in the semifinal.
In the doubles final, Pranav Korade and Manish Ganesh lost to Krishna Teja Raja and Pranav Mahesh 6-7, 5-7.
Naishik Reddy, mentored by former Olympian J. Vishnuvardhan, and Pranav Korade train at Suresh Krishna Tennis Academy.
