Narayanpet: A Namasthe Telangana journalist and a photographer were allegedly attacked by members of a sand mafia while covering illegal sand transportation in the River Krishna here on Saturday.
Journalist Ramu, the Maganur correspondent of Namasthe Telangana, and photographer Taher were reportedly assaulted while documenting the alleged illegal activity. A complaint was lodged at the Krishna police station following the incident.
Condemning the attack, leaders of the Telangana Union of Working Journalists (TUWJ & IJU) described it as a serious assault on press freedom and democratic values.
They said physical attacks on journalists while they were performing their professional duties were unacceptable and demanded immediate action against those responsible.
The TUWJ & IJU leaders urged the police to register a case and ensure strict legal action against the accused. They also appealed to the government to take adequate measures to ensure the safety and security of journalists.
