Khammam: Demonstrations were staged and rallies were taken out in Khammam as part of nation-wide strike called on Thursday by 10 Central Trade Unions in protest against the BJP government’s alleged anti-worker and anti-farmer policies.
Public transportation and other services were affected partially in erstwhile Khammam as the leaders and workers of different trade unions staged demonstrations at RTC bus stands and depots preventing buses from coming onto the roads.
Left parties leaders B Hemantha Rao, P Sudarshan Rao, Ranga Rao Congress leader P Durga Prasad, TS Municipal Staff and Outsourcing workers Union leader M Gandhi Venkat Jaya, TRSV KMC honorary president K Murali and others joined the protests.
Speaking to the press persons said that leaders alleged that the NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been working against the interests of farmers and workers with new farm and labour laws.
The Modi government was only serving the interests of corporate forces like Ambani and Adani while neglecting the common public and their needs. The recently introduced farm bill leaves the farmers at the mercy of corporate forces, Hemantha Rao and others noted.
The same was the case with workers as the NDA government has diluted the Labour Laws with the amendments and wants to restrict the rights of workers to strike besides increasing the threshold relating to layoffs, complained Venkat Jaya.
It was the high time for all the likeminded parties and trade unions to join hands to fight against the Modi government and to protect the rights of the workers, farmers and common public, the leaders noted.
