Hyderabad: In a novel attempt to provide guidance and counselling to women across the country struggling with breast cancer, a national breast cancer and benign breast disease helpline was launched by Ushalakshmi Breast Cancer Foundation (UBF) on Thursday.
The unique aspect of the helpline (08046983383), which was launched by Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu in a virtual function is that it will be manned by breast cancer conquerors, trained professional counsellors and dieticians.
The Vice President appreciated UBF for roping in breast cancer conquerors and counsellors for the special helpline. “Spreading awareness through cancer conquerors is praiseworthy, especially because they themselves had gone through the gruelling treatment of breast cancer. Cancer also impacts mental health and trained counsellors can help in keeping the patients motivated to fight the illness spiritedly,” he said.
The CEO and Director of UBF, Dr P Raghu Ram said, “With upcoming festivals including Dasara and Diwali, I urge men to gift their loved ones with an annual screening mammogram test, which is the only way to detect breast cancer in early stages.”
The UBF on Thursday also illuminated Raj Bhavan, Charminar, Buddha Statue and Ravindra Bharati in pink, which is the colour that represents breast cancer.
