Hyderabad: The National Farmer’s day or the Kisan Diwas is Celebrated on December 23 every year, in honour of the fifth prime minister of the country Choudhary Charan Singh on his birth anniversary. States such as Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, which are actively engaged in farm activities, celebrate the Farmer’s day more.
Farmers who serve as the backbone of the Indian economy fail to get 2 square meals a day, hence Kisan diwas is celebrated to recognise their selfless service to the society and to reward them for their contribution.
To promote awareness, help and identify the contribution of farmers, the Indian Government in 2001 decided to mark the Birth anniversary of India’s fifth Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh, who introduced several welfare schemes for farmers and wrote many books on their problems, as the National Farmer’s Day.
