Hyderabad: Director, National Institute of Nutrition (NIN), Dr R Hemalatha presented the first Tulpule Awards in the senior and junior categories to Dr Bharati Kulkarni, Scientist F and Head, Clinical Division and Dr Paras Sharma, Scientist C, Food Chemistry Division respectively for their contributions to nutritional and health sciences, a press release said.

The Tulpule Awards, which were given away at a ceremony held in hybrid mode at NIN, were Instituted by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) with donation from Pune-based Tulpule family in honour of Dr PG Tulpule, former Director of NIN (1980-83) and his late wife Malati Tulpule to encourage mid and senior level scientists as well as young researchers, scholars, fellows.


The awardees received a silver plaque each and a citation along with a cash prize. Dr Kulkarni, the winner in the senior category delivered the PG Tulpule oration on the ‘Triple burden of malnutrition in India and the critical role of body composition’.
