Khammam: The 33rd National Netball Championship has been kicked off here at Sardar Patel Stadium on Wednesday. District Collector RV Karnan who launched the event said sports infrastructure development in Khammam has been going at a fast pace. Sports stadiums and grounds were being equipped with state-of-the-art facilities by spending huge amounts of funds on par with State capital Hyderabad.
Steps were being taken to promote sports and games among youngsters by providing better facilities for them. The district administration would make all efforts to host more national and international sports events in future in Khammam, the Collector said. All required arrangements have been made for the convenience of the sports persons taking part in the championship, Karnan said while urging the participants to display outstanding sportsmanship and skills to excel in the event.
He informed that players from around 20 States have registered their names to participate in the event and of them 14 States have been taking part in the four-day event with as many as 168 players.
The Collector advised the players to follow Covid-19 guidelines and appreciated the members of the Netball Association of Khammam for organising the championship. The event would conclude on February 27.
District Sports Development Officer M Parandhama Reddy, ACP G Venkat Rao, Netball Federation of India president Hari Om Kaushik, its state vice president Vijayavarthan, State secretary Md. Baba Khan, the tournament organising secretary M Phani Kumar, paediatrician Dr K Pradeep and others were present.
