Hyderabad: The ‘National Wildlife Day’ is observed every year on September 4 with an aim to spread awareness about the wildlife species around us.
The national celebration is considered to be of great significance, especially in these challenging times – increasing global warming, climate change and massive deforestation which have made it worrisome for wildlife. Thus, the day focuses on making people aware of endangered species, preservation, and conservation efforts around the world.
It is a widely known fact that several species are on the verge of extinction – some studies suggest that over 37,000 species around the world are threatened with extinction. Thus, the day is designed to bring awareness about these different species and the reasons for their numbers coming down drastically.
Emergence of National Wildlife Day 2021
Celebrated every year on September 4, it was created by Colleen Paige in honour of the late wildlife conservationist Steve Irwin, who strived to raise awareness on several issues that all wildlife continues to tackle.
Wildlife isn’t just limited to the green forests, but the importance of conserving domestic animals, birds and even insects is also propagated on this day.
National Wildlife Day 2021 theme
Every year, the celebration of National Wildlife Day is focused on a dedicated theme. The reason for a theme is to narrow down the topic of conversation and the conservation efforts, and also helps to precisely educate and spread awareness among the public.
The theme for National Wildlife Day 2021 is ‘Forests and Livelihoods: Sustaining People and Planet.’
