Hyderabad: Around 250 private junior colleges across Telangana are functioning without affiliation from the Telangana Board of Intermediate Education (TGBIE).
These colleges have already admitted students and commenced classes without obtaining the Board’s permission, which is a clear violation of the rules.
Officials revealed that most of these unaffiliated colleges are operating from mixed occupancy buildings (commercial establishments along with colleges), flouting the norms for setting up educational institutions. Additionally, several colleges have failed to submit mandatory documents, including fire safety NOC, a key requirement for examining the application before granting affiliation to the college.
Amid reports of an increasing number of unaffiliated colleges, the Board has deployed three task force teams to identify and act against these institutions. During the inspection, the teams found that classes were being conducted in 18 such private unaffiliated colleges located in Hyderabad, Rangareddy and Medchal districts and subsequently, notices were also served to the management of those colleges.
“We have already blocked logins of such private colleges operating from mixed occupancy buildings. Based on the response to notices, the Board will initiate necessary action against the colleges,” said an official source.
For the academic year 2025–26, a total of 3,064 junior colleges applied for affiliation and 2,780 have been granted affiliation so far, according to official sources.
