Mahabubnagar: Sports Minister V Srinivas Goud said a new sports policy would be introduced shortly in the State. A Cabinet subcommittee meeting would be held soon to discuss the new sports policy, he said.

Launching the Shanta Narayana Trust’s cricket tournament here on Thursday, the Minister said the Telangana government was according to top priority to sports and infrastructure was being developed across the State.


Already, the construction of 50 stadiums was completed and construction of another 50 stadiums was in different stages, he said. “One stadium is being constructed in each constituency,” said Srinivas Goud, adding two per cent reservation was being provided to sportspersons in jobs.

All support was being extended to sports persons excelling in national, international tournaments and Olympics, he said. The existing stadium at Mahabubnagar was being developed at a cost of Rs 12 crore. Of these, Rs 9 crore was being spent on infrastructure development in the stadium and the balance is being used for the construction of the volleyball stadium, the Minister said.

“In addition to the existing stadium, another stadium has been sanctioned to Mahabubnagar. The stadium will be constructed with a cost of Rs.3 crore and works will commence shortly,” said Srinivas Goud.
