Hyderabad: In a tragic incident, a 25-year-old newly married woman died after a speeding tipper lorry hit the scooter she was travelling on in Chandrayangutta on Thursday night.
The victim, identified as Fatima, was returning home to Noori Nagar with her husband after attending a wedding function.
Police said the couple was travelling on a scooter along with two children from their relatives’ family when the mishap occurred on the Chandrayangutta-Bandlaguda road.
The accident took place while the scooter was making a U-turn when the lorry allegedly rammed into it from behind. Fatima suffered fatal injuries and died on the spot, while her husband and the two children escaped safely.
The lorry driver fled soon after the accident.
On receiving information, the Bandlaguda police reached the spot and took up an investigation. Officials are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the vehicle and trace the driver.
Fatima had got married only three months ago, and her death has left her family in shock.
