NFDB to hold national workshop on fisheries cooperatives in Hyderabad on May 15
The National Fisheries Development Board, along with the Department of Fisheries and the Ministry of Cooperation, will host a national workshop on fisheries cooperatives in Hyderabad on May 15.

Hyderabad: The National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying and the Ministry of Cooperation, Government of India, is organising a National Workshop on Fisheries Cooperatives on May 15 at Hyderabad.
The deliberations are expected to provide policy direction and outline sectoral priorities for strengthening fisheries cooperatives in the country. The proposed Margdarshika envisages an action plan for establishing two lakh new Multi-Purpose Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS), along with dairy and fisheries cooperatives.
As part of this initiative, it aims to facilitate the formation of 6,000 new fisheries cooperative societies and strengthen 5,500 existing fisheries cooperatives during the period 2024–25 to 2028–29.
The workshop will provide a platform for detailed deliberations through thematic sessions covering issues such as the action plan for formation of new fisheries cooperatives under PMMSY, strengthening of existing societies under PM-MKSSY, government welfare schemes, opportunities in inland, Himalayan and North Eastern regions, among other issues.
The workshop will feature addresses by Dr. Abhilaksh Likhi, Secretary, Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Dr. Ashish Kumar Bhutani, Secretary, Ministry of Cooperation, Dr. Bijay Kumar Behera, Chief Executive, NFDB, Siddharth Jain, Additional Secretary (CTP), Ministry of Cooperation, K. Surendra Mohan, Secretary (Agriculture & Cooperation), Government of Telangana.
