Forest officials install a CCTV camera trap to track movement of a tiger in the forests of Suryapur and Medanpur villages in Kuntala mandal
Nirmal: A tiger from Maharashtra is suspected to have strayed into the forests of Kuntala mandal, triggering panic among locals on Saturday.
Forest officials, who inspected the spot of a cattle kill, told pressmen that a male Royal Bengal tiger aged between 6 and 7 years from the neighbouring Maharashtra might have entered the forests of Suryapur and Medanpur villages in Kuntala mandal in search of territory.
They said efforts were being made to prevent human loss and ensure smooth passage for the tiger. They added that CCTV cameras were installed and animal trackers were deployed to track movement of the tiger.
The officials created awareness among villagers over the movement of the tiger. They urged locals of Syryapur, Medanpur, Dounelli and Ambugaon villages not to harm the tiger by setting electrified fences. They also advised shepherds to be cautious of the tiger.
Meanwhile, a shepherd from village, Chama Hanumanthu claimed that he managed to save his life by climbing a tree when a tiger attacked cattle and calf in the forests of Suryapur and Medanpur villages. Kunch Sayanna, a local farmer, wanted compensation for his cattle and calf killed by the tiger.
