Police car damaged by the villagers in Nizamabad district
Nizamabad: Tension prevailed at Hasakotturu village in Nizamabad district on Friday when police went to the village to investigate the death of a youth. The villagers allegedly picked up an argument with the police, attacked their vehicle and broke the windshield.
On Thursday night, Kanaka Rajesh and his followers allegedly attacked Malavat Siddarth (19), a resident of the village, with sticks and beer bottles since the teenager was in love with the former’s sister and in regular contact. Following the attack, Siddarth died on the spot. Kanaka Rajesh is the village TRS president, police said.
Later, Rajesh took the youth to a private nursing home in Metpally and tried to convince the hospital doctors that he was suffering from Covid-19 and sought treatment. The doctors, however, realised that the youngster had died of severe injuries and refused to admit him.
Subsequently, Rajesh took the body back to the village tried to hand it over to his relatives, who, however, refused to take the body after noticing the injuries. Later, Rajesh left Siddarth’s body at the Armoor area hospital and surrendered himself at Armoor police station.
On coming to know about this development, Siddarth’s relatives and some villagers staged a protest in front of Rajesh’s house on Friday and tried to attack his family members. The police, however, tightened security in the village and tried to pacify the Siddarth’s family and the angry villagers.
The villagers alleged that the police tried to protect the accused, his followers, and family members, and were providing security to them. They demanded that police leave the spot and attacked their vehicle. Even as tension prevailed, BJP and Congress leaders Mallikarjun Reddy and Eeravatri Anil respectively reached the spot and extended their support to the family members of the deceased. The villagers raised slogans against the police and forced them to the outskirts of the village.
About 150 policemen were deployed in the village and Armoor ACP Raghu supervised the situation along with Bheemgal and Armoor Rural Inspectors Srinath Reddy and Ravi Kumar.
Meanwhile, Kammarpally Mandal TRS party leaders said Rajesh had been expelled from the party and that they were ready to cooperate with the police in the investigation.
Police registered a case and further investigations are on.
