Hyderabad: With people panicking and refilling fuel, the Telangana Petroleum Dealers Association on Wednesday assured the citizens that there is no shortage of fuel in the State and urged them to avoid panic buying.
Despite government assurances of adequate fuel supplies in the city, panic-stricken citizens continue to throng the fuel stations.
The panic buying, according to the association, has led to an abnormal surge in sales – nearly 2.5 to 3 times the normal levels – resulting in temporary stock exhaustion at several outlets.
Stating that there is no shortage of fuel, Telangana Petroleum Dealers Association, Marri Amarender Reddy said adequate stock is available with the oil and gas companies – HPCL, IOCL and BPCL. “Supply chains are functioning normally,” Reddy said. He urged people to purchase fuel only as per their regular needs.
Carrying petrol or diesel in cans for storage, according to the association, is against PESO norms and poses a serious safety risk. “Improper storage of fuel can lead to hazardous situations, including fire accidents. This is not a safe or approved method of storing fuel,” it added.
