Sangareddy: Necessity is the mother of invention. The adage proved right against in Yeddu Mailaram village where the Gram Panchayat came up with a novel idea of providing cash incentives to students joining the English medium wing of a Government School. The reason, if there was no strength in sixth class of the recently sanctioned English medium wing, the school would lose the English medium wing. Hence the village Sarpanch K Malla Reddy came up with the novel idea of incentivising the students willing to join the Zilla Parishad High School. And the ploy worked.
Fifteen students, who were hitherto enrolled in private schools, joined the ZP High School and they were given the promised cash incentive. Rs 1000 to each student was given by the Gram Panchayat of Yeddu Mailaram village. The money was handed over by none other than the additional Collector R Eajaharshi Sha in a programme organised on the school promises on Tuesday.
The School headmaster told Telangana Today that they wanted to retain to English medium recognition granted this year. When the parents were not so interested to join their wards in the school, they thought they would find it difficult to retain the English medium due to lack of a minimum number of admissions. When they took up the issue to Sarpanch Malla Reddy, he came up with the idea. Besides, carrying out a door-to-door campaign, Bhaskar said that the Sarpanch has assured to give Rs 1,000 as a gift to private school students. Since the local Government Primary School was already having English medium, 19 students from primary school joined in 6th Class. The total strength touched 34 in the 6th class.
Following their door-to-door campaign, the Primary School Head Master Janardhan said that they had got 82 new admissions this year in addition to the previous year’s 70. The teachers said that the strength in these schools has been steadily increasing with constant support from Grama Panchayath. However, Malla Reddy said that the school is getting more admissions because it has some wonderful teachers who were working with commitment.
