Warangal: Responding to the complaints and criticism over levying the development charges and security deposit, Northern Power Distribution Company Limited (NPDCL) has said that they had issued notices to the power consumers before issuing the bills including the development charges and security deposit following the increased load on the power distribution lines, sub-stations and other network.
The company, however, said that the consumers who think that they were not utilizing the power more than that of the sanctioned limit can still lodge the complaint with the section officer (Assistant Engineer/ Operation) in written format to resolve the issues amicably. “After receiving the grievances/complaints on the load, an inspection would be done. If there is additional load, the additional load (development) charges will be removed/deleted,” said NPDCL CMD Annamaneni Gopla Rao in a press note here on Thursday.
“While the sanctioned load is 3000 MW, nearly 4200 MW power consumption was recorded by the NPDCL. Due to this, the company added Rs 1200 towards development charges for each kilowatt, and Rs 200 towards security deposit. We have also informed the additional usage in the December 2021 and January 2022 bills as the ‘notice’, and the charges were removed after inspection, if the consumers complained that they had not used the additional power,” he said and added that they had spent huge funds on ensuring the quality power by setting up new distribution transformers, lines, and substations.
The CMD also added that they developed infrastructure for the supply of 1207.07 MW . “We have also increased the contracted load to those who used more power,” the CMD added. The CMD, however, urged the power consumers under the NPDCL limits to visit the officials concerned (section officer) and lodge complaints if they do not have the additional load on the connection. For every single kilowatt of energy requires payment of Rs.1,200. While as a rule, the loads should be contracted based on the number of electricity appliances and connections in a household or commercial establishment, it is often violated.
It is said that for a single-phase connection, 2 KW is the minimum load to be contracted, and for a three-phase, a minimum of 3 KW. However, consumers are, of late, connecting up to 6 KW of loads on a single KW of contracted load.
