Hyderabad: Alleging rising corruption, land grabbing and failure to deliver on promises, a group of NRIs from Telangana has urged AICC leader Rahul Gandhi to sack “inept” ministers and save the Congress in Telangana.
The group, calling itself Friends of Congress USA, expressed concern over stalled projects and lack of transparency in governance in an open letter to the Congress MP. They said they had toured several parts of Telangana, especially northern districts, and found people fed up with what they described as the “fake Congress.”
In a detailed Facebook post, Friends of Congress USA listed what it called key failures of the State government. They said the failure to implement guarantees and promises had eroded public trust. They also claimed that ministers lacked subject knowledge to counter the Opposition in the Assembly and pointed to poor coordination between bureaucrats and the government.
The NRIs alleged that several leaders were not accessible to the public. Referring to recent allegations involving the son of Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, they said corruption had led to commission charges of 20 to 30 percent. They also cited allegations ranging from land issues linked to the Central University to initiatives such as HILTP and the Musi River rejuvenation plan. According to them, several projects were faltering due to lack of transparency.
On the political front, they said encouraging defectors from other parties while losing senior leaders such as Jeevan Reddy had demoralised loyal party workers. They alleged that real estate interests were influencing decisions and that some leaders were sidelining grassroots workers while inducting members from the TDP.
The group suggested that the AICC improve communication with leaders in government and the party, as well as with social media influencers and other stakeholders. They appealed to core Congress workers to remain in the party and raise their concerns internally. “We want MLAs to unite and raise their voice against inept ministers. We hope our concerns reach AICC decision-makers before it is too late,” Friends of Congress USA said in the post.
