Nursing students thank CM KCR for increasing stipend
The State government has enhanced the stipend for the first-year students from the current Rs 1,500 to Rs 5,000 and for second-year students from Rs 1,600 to Rs.6,000
Hyderabad: Nursing students across the State thanked Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao for increasing the stipend and performed ksheerabhishekham to the portrait of the Chief Minister at different places on Monday. The State government has enhanced the stipend for the first-year students from the current Rs 1,500 to Rs 5,000 and for second-year students from Rs 1,600 to Rs.6,000.
Similarly, the stipend for third-year students has been increased to Rs 7,000 from Rs 1,700, and this would come into effect immediately.
The State government to strengthen the medical infrastructure announced new medical colleges, besides recruiting doctors and support staff. This apart, measures have been initiated to improve basic amenities in hospitals across the State.
Considering the importance of nursing services and to expand these services, the State government has already sanctioned new nursing colleges attaching them to the existing medical colleges. In this regard, the Chief Minister’s decision to enhance the nursing students’ stipend and promote nursing education will be a milestone in the health sector in the State.
After formation of Telangana there has been a remarkable change in the nursing education in the State. Prior to Telangana formation, there were 380 seats in six colleges. But after Telangana became a reality, the Chief Minister sanctioned 14 new colleges offering additional 1400 seats and taking the cumulative total to 20 colleges and 1780 seats in the State.
These new colleges are coming up in Sircilla, Banswada, Sangareddy, Mahabubabad, Nizamabad, Mahabubnagar, Siddipet, Suryapet, Nalgonda, Wanaparthy, Nagarkurnool, Gadwal, Kothagudem and Mancherial. Apart from sanctioning new colleges, the State government has allocated Rs.590 crore for provision of infrastructure.
Further, the State government has sanctioned 816 regular posts in the new nursing colleges for offering quality education and effective administration. In tune with specialised medical courses, the Chief Minister instructed the officials to offer specialized nursing courses.
