Bengaluru: A massive fire broke out in a commercial building at Nagarathpet near KR Market late Friday night, leaving one person dead and several others feared trapped inside.
The deceased has been identified as Madan Singh, a native of Rajasthan, who was residing with his family on the third floor of the building. According to initial reports, Singh was burnt to death after flames engulfed his residence. Authorities fear that three more members of his family — his wife and two children aged 8 and 5, may also have perished in the fire, though official confirmation is awaited.
The fire, which broke out suddenly inside the residential section of the commercial complex, spread rapidly, leaving little time for escape. As soon as information was received, fire and emergency services rushed to the spot and began rescue operations. Thick smoke blanketed the building, forcing firefighters to use oxygen cylinders as they searched for those trapped inside.
Three ambulances have been deployed at the site to shift victims to nearby hospitals. Firefighters continued operations late into the night, attempting to bring the blaze under control and rescue anyone still inside.
Locals who gathered at the spot expressed shock and fear, as the building is located in a densely populated trading hub of the city. Authorities are yet to ascertain the exact cause of the fire, but investigations are underway to determine whether an electrical short circuit or other factors triggered the tragedy.
The bodies have been shifted to a nearby hospital for post-mortem, while the search for the missing family members continues. Police have cordoned off the area to ensure smooth rescue operations.
