Hyderabad: While 80 per cent of educational institutions provide transport facilities in the Cyberabad region, only 30 per cent of students use them, according to a recent joint survey conducted by the Cyberabad Police and the Society for Cyberabad Security Council (SCSC).

The survey was conducted by Cyberabad Police and SCSC across 526 educational institutions covering around 4.1 lakh students.

Officials said the heavy dependence on private vehicles was a major reason for traffic congestion near schools and colleges.

Against this backdrop, the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate, jointly with SCSC, on Friday conducted an orientation programme for educational institutions to address growing traffic congestion and student transport safety concerns across the region. The event saw participation from over 750 representatives from nearly 500 educational institutions, along with officials from TGSRTC, RTA, civic bodies and transport operators.

Speaking at the event, Cyberabad Police Commissioner M Ramesh said nearly two lakh vehicles were being recorded around school campuses during peak hours, worsening traffic congestion and increasing the risk of accidents involving students and parents.

The police and SCSC proposed a mobility initiative aimed at creating a coordinated technology platform integrating schools, transport operators, parents and civic authorities. The initiative could improve safety, compliance, affordability and traffic management.
