Hyderabad: The family members of 75-year-old farmer Garlapati Venkat Reddy, a resident of Garakunta palem, Kannekal, Nalgonda, who was declared as brain dead by attending team of doctors, have donated the organs of the deceased to needy patients as part of State-run Jeevandan organ donation initiative.
On April 18, the farmer, while travelling on his two-wheeler, suddenly slipped and in the process received serious injuries. Immediately, his family members admitted him to the local hospital in Miryalaguda and for better treatment later shifted him to a private hospital in Hyderabad.
With no improvement in the farmer’s health condition, following intensive care treatment, the attending team of doctors declared Venkat Reddy as brain dead. The two sons of the farmer, Ramana Reddy and Ravinder Reddy gave the consent to donate the organs to needy patients as part of the Jeevandan organ donation initiative.
The surgeons retrieved two corneas and liver (in all 3 organs) and allocated them to needy patients based on the Jeevandan organ donation guidelines.
On the occasion, Jeevandan Telangana extended its gratitude to the family members of Garlapati Venkat Reddy for taking the noble decision to donate organs.
