Hyderabad: With inadequate grants from the State government, the Osmania University (OU) on Saturday presented the budget for 2025-26 with a deficit of Rs.43.15 core.

The university annual budget, presented by Prof. D Sreeramulu from the University College of Commerce and Business Management, projected the expenditure at Rs.815.69 crore while the total amount available for utilisation is Rs.772.54 crore.
The major part (55.65 percent) of the budget is for salaries, 38 percent for pensions, 5.86 percent for contingencies and 0.49 percent for loans to employees.

“In spite of pooling all the resources available in the University still there is a shortfall of Rs.43.15 crore as against the total expenditure of Rs.815.69 crore,” Prof.Sreeramulu said.

Stating that the block grant allocated by the government in the State budget for the varsity for the year 2025-26 is inadequate, Prof. Sreeramulu said the university will urge the government to enhance the block grant.

Despite grappling with insufficient funding, the university unveiled infrastructure development plans, including construction of classroom complex and moot court facility at University College of Law at an estimated cost of Rs.25 crore, setting up Centre of Excellence of AIML, with alumni share, at an estimated cost of Rs.10 crore, and creation of computational lab at Civil Engineering department at a cost of Rs. 2 crore.

Completion of a 300 capacity hostel (boys) at a cost of Rs.39.50 crore, interiors for a new administrative building and maintenance of university buildings has also been proposed. Construction of one each hostel for boys and girls with Rs.30 crore government fund will be taken as well.
Speaking to ‘Telangana Today’, OU Vice Chancellor, Prof. M Kumar said the infrastructure development works will be carried out with special grants allocated by the government.
