OUTA urges govt not to grant tainted individuals as Vice Chancellor

According to the OUTA, some of the VCs who demitted office in May were involved in controversies like irregularities like Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) promotions, allegations of corruption and shirking the responsibility of governance. The OUTA said some of these ‘tainted’ VCs applied for another term and if a chance was given to them then existence of the universities itself would be at stake.
The OUTA move comes as the search committees to select three names for appointment of the VCs to State universities is slated to meet on October 3 and 4. According to the teachers’ body, the government was considering giving another term to a few of the VCs who recently demitted office.
“Allowing tainted individuals to re-enter positions of authority without adequate accountability measures not only condones their past transgression but also erodes the trust and confidence of stakeholders in the institution’s ability to uphold ethical standards. We want new individuals to be given appointments as the VCs,” said. Prof. B Manohar, president OUTA.
A total of 312 candidates are in the race for VC position in 10 universities. A total of 1,382 applications have been received as some candidates applied for the multiple universities.
