Hyderabad: For the first time since the Telangana State came into being, the registrations for the Intermediate Public Examinations (IPE) have crossed the 10-lakh mark this academic year.
As per the information available with the Telangana Board of Intermediate Education, a total of 9,91,488 first and second-year regular intermediate students and another 10,000 private once-failed candidates are registered for the examinations that will commence from February 25, 2026.
This academic year saw a total of 10,44,133 admissions in junior colleges, including the government, government-rector and private intermediate institutions.
The number of registrations will further go up as the State government has recently accorded permission for the 13 mixed occupancy colleges that are operating in residential and commercial colleges for this academic year. Over 10,000 students are pursuing their academics in these colleges.
For the exams held in March 2025, a total of 9,96,971 students paid the exam fee, which was the highest number recorded so far. About 9.35 lakh and 9.47 lakh students paid the fee for exams held in 2024 and 2023, respectively. However, despite the registrations, around 4 to 5 per cent of students skip the exams for various reasons.
This time, despite registrations going up, the Board scaled down the number of examination centres. As against 1,533 centres this year, 1,488 are being set up for February 2026 exams. Earlier, due to the issue of mixed occupancy, the Board constituted some centres in schools rather than in colleges.
This year, as the mixed occupancy issue has already been resolved, centres have not been allotted in schools and hence the total centres has come down, officials said.
Meanwhile, the Board asked all the junior colleges to submit an undertaking that none of their students who took admission in the respective institutions were left out for examination registration. This is to ensure that all students who took admission during the academic year 2025-26 pay the exam fee.
Further, the nominal rolls have been sent out to the colleges to ensure that students’ credentials, such as name, father’s and mother’s names, subjects appearing and other details are correct. Corrections, if any, in the nominals have to be sent to the Board via the college concerned.
