Over 100 jailed for drunk driving in Cyberabad

Hyderabad: A total of 108 persons, who were caught by the Cyberabad Traffic Police in five days on charges of drunk driving, have been sent to jail for durations ranging from one day to seven days.

According to the traffic police, the persons who were sentenced to imprisonment were among 256 persons caught for drunk driving and without driving licence during regular vehicle checking between November 1 and 5, at various places across the Cyberabad Commissionerate.

All those caught were produced before the court, which imposed a total fine of Rs 5.8 lakh on violators of the drunk driving rule and Rs 59,700 on those without a driving licence.

According to the police, 25 persons caught at Balanagar were imprisoned for drunk driving, followed by Madhapur with 23 persons, Gachibowli with 20 persons, Shamshabad with 18 persons and Miyapur with 17 persons.

The driving licenses of all the persons caught drunk were being sent to the Regional Transport Authority concerned for suspension of the license, officials said.
