Nalgonda: The district officials of the Agriculture Department have estimated that the farmers would take up cultivation in 12,18,710 acres in the Vanakalam season.
Participating in a review meeting chaired by Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy in the Collectorate here on Wednesday, the agriculture official ssaid that it was expected that the area of cultivation of this Vanakalam season would be 63,730 more than of last season
The Agriculture Department has prepared a plan to bring down paddy cultivation in this crop season compared to the last crop season. The farmers took up the cultivation of paddy in 4,01,124 acres in last year and it was targeted to bring down the paddy cultivation area to 3,53,800 acres, which was 47,324 acres decrease.
Reacting to it, Jagadish Reddy instructed the officials to take measures to encourage the farmers to switch over to the cultivation of pulses particularly red gram from paddy. It would financially benefit the farmers. The farmers should cultivate demand-based crops. Cotton also had good demand in the market, he added.
