Over 500 property owners hold hunger strike over Rajiv Rahadari

Over 500 property owners affected by land acquisition for the Rajiv Rahadari elevated corridor held a one-day hunger strike at Karkhana in Secunderabad Cantonment. The protesters demanded fair compensation from the Hyderabad and Medchal-Malkajgiri district administrations

Hyderabad: Over 500 property owners whose properties were affected by land acquisition on Rajiv Rahadari for the elevated corridor between Gymkhana Grounds and ORR Shamirpet took part in a one-day hunger strike at Karkhana in Secunderabad Cantonment on Tuesday.

Satish Gupta, President of Rajiv Rahadari JAC, told ‘Telangana Today’ that the Deeksha was held with the demand that the Hyderabad and Medchal-Malkajgiri district administrations pay compensation to land losers in a fair manner. He said that over the past few months, revenue officials of these Collectorates had been paying compensation to acquire land coming in the way of the elevated corridor, despite the issue being sub-judice.

An estimated 1,500 to 2,000 families will be impacted by land acquisition linked to the infrastructure project. Those affected included owners of commercial establishments who had been running businesses for the past six decades on Rajiv Rahadari and attended the Deeksha, Satish said.
