Hyderabad: The rich heritage and glory of the Kakatiya dynasty has been brought alive onstage by Dr Padmaja Reddy and group in the form of a mind-blowing Kuchipudi performance. The dancer has created history with her beautiful and nuanced presentation. Padmaja has brought in a few modern concepts too into her dance drama to showcase the wonderful scupltural art of the Ramappa Temple that display the dance forms of the Kakatiya era.
The famous dancer and dance guru, Dr Padmaja Reddy, along with her troupe, presented the second part of ‘Kakatiyam’ dance drama at the Shilpakala Vedika on Sunday, in the most endearing and captivating manner. Two years ago, the danseuse presented the first part of ‘Kakatiyam’. ‘Kakatiyam’ is based on ‘Nrutya Ratnavali’, written by Jayapa Senani, which has been made into a dance drama by renowned dance researcher Dr Pappu Venugopalarao.
Having done a thorough research on the Kakatiya history, Dr Padmaja has directed the dance drama, which had 100-plus dancers, and received much appreciation for her wonderful performance.
In the second part of ‘Kakatiyam’ Gondali, Rasakam, Charana and Perini Siva Tandavam aspects have attracted attention. While IV Renuka Prasad provided the nattuvangam support, B Ganesh was on mridangam, Anil Kumar on violin and Uma Venkateswarlu on flute. Gnana Prasuna enthralled the audience with her vocals.
Calling it a ‘wonder’ and a visual spectacle, Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya praised Dr Padmaja for highlighting the history of Telangana and showcasing the heritage of the Kakatiya dynasty in all its splendour to the world. MLC Kalvakuntla Kavita inaugurated the dance drama by lighting the lamp.
TRS MLA Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, Minister for TOurism and Culture G Kishan Reddy, Telangana Minister of State for Tourism and Culture V Srinivas Goud, Home Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali, Minister of State for Endowments Indrakaran Reddy, MP G Ranjith Reddy, Rasamayi Balakishan, Sunitha Reddy, among others, were present.
