Sub-Inspector Gundrathi Satish with Bandipelli Rajamma at Lakshminarayanapuram village.
Jangaon: Palakurthy Sub-Inspector Gundrathi Satish has been winning hearts with his humanitarian activities. His latest gesture – providing a house to an octagenarian woman who faced multiple tragedies – has been widely appreciated.
Moved by the plight of a poor woman of Lakshminarayanapuram village of Palakurthy mandal, Satish got a house with asbestos roof constructed for her at a cost of Rs 1.60 lakh, the money coming from his pocket. Bandipelli Rajamma (80), who lost her husband several years ago, was living with her differently-abled son in a small mud-walled house with no doors. A portion of the house collapsed due to rains during the monsoon. The woman’s daughter-in-law also died of illness a year and a half ago. Since then, Rajamma has been living in the damaged house.
Tragedy struck her again when her granddaughter died of snake bite. “Since there was no door, the snake entered the house and claimed my six-year-old granddaughter’s life,” said Rajamma. On getting to know about the hardships faced by Rajamma during a visit to the village, Satish decided to construct a house for Rajamma and completed it within three months.
Speaking to Telangana Today, Satish said that he was happy to help Rajamma as there was no other person to help her. “I don’t feel I have done a great job, but it gives me immense pleasure,” he added.
On Thursday, Usha, chairperson of Errabelli Charitable Trust and wife of Panchayat Raj Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao, attended the house warming ceremony and handed over rice and groceries to Rajamma.
A 2014-batch SI, Satish also helped many Covid-19 patients recover by ensuring that they are given nutritious food besides medicines during the peak of the pandemic. Satish, who was also infected by Covid-19, started visiting houses of Covid patients after his recovery to instill confidence among them. He gave suggestions to family members on how to keep themselves safe. He even provided isolation facilities for some Covid-19 patients who could not afford to stay in their homes.
A native of Edulla Bayyaram village of Pinapaka mandal in Khammam district, Satish received appreciation from Dayakar Rao and the people of Palakurthy mandal for his generosity.
