Hyderabad: Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy stated that the State government had accorded top priority to irrigation projects in erstwhile Palamuru to address the backwardness and chronic drought conditions prevailing in the region.
The Minister on Monday conducted an extensive review meeting on the status of irrigation projects in the erstwhile Palamuru with MLAs and Ministers from the region. He assured the elected representatives that the progress of the Palamuru irrigation projects was being closely monitored. Sustained efforts were underway to resolve bottlenecks affecting execution, he stated.
“Projects in the Palamuru region are being treated on par with Devadula, SLBC and Sitarama projects. The government is making all-out efforts to complete them at the earliest,” Uttam Kumar Reddy said.
Highlighting the importance of the Jurala Project, the Minister said the government was taking steps to address severe sedimentation issues that had reduced the reservoir’s storage capacity to below eight TMC.
Proposals had already been submitted to the Ministry of Jal Shakti to consider the Jurala project for assistance under the DRIP (Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project), he said.
“Desiltation works under DRIP will significantly improve dam safety, storage capacity and operational efficiency of the Jurala reservoir” the Minister said.
