Hyderabad: Apart from facilitating development and hygiene in villages, Chief Minister K Chandrahshekhar Rao’s brainchild Palle Pragathi programme has been helping in reaping a rich haul of awards for the State.

In February this year, seven villages from the State were ranked among the top ten villages under Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY), union Ministry of Rural Development. And now, 19 villages have bagged national awards in the annual awards announced by the union Ministry of Rural Development.

On Sunday, Industries Minister KT Rama Rao tweeted: “Be it Rural Development or Urban Development, no one can match the inclusive growth model of Telangana CM KCR Garu. My heartfelt compliments to Panchayat Raj & RD Minister Dayakar Rao Garu & his team on winning 19 awards. Special Compliment to Siricilla Zilla Parishad,”

If Vennampally, a village in Saidapur mandal in erstwhile Karimnagar district, bagged the top rank under the SAGY, Sircilla bagged the best Zilla Parishat award and Chandapur Panchayat, Wanaparthy won the Child-friendly Gram Panchayat Award (Appraisal Year 2020-21).

As part of SAGY, villages are ranked based on 12 different parameters and they are awarded weightage accordingly for 100 marks. The parameters include Gram Panchayat conducting Environment Creation activities, completing baseline survey and uploading the survey details, whether the draft Village Development Plan got clearance of Gram Sabha, number of non-infrastructure projects completed, number of economic and livelihood activities etc.

In the latest Panchayat awards, the State bagged 19 awards and these awards were secured in different categories of district, mandal, and gram panchayats.

Sircilla bagged the best Zilla Parishat award, while Parvatgiri (Warangal), Peddapalli, Tirumalagiri (Suryapet) and Kodimal (Jagityal) were adjudged as the best mandals.

Palle Pragathi, which is aimed at developing rural areas with special focus on hygiene and provision of basic amenities, is transforming the ambience in the villages.

To ensure comprehensive development of rural areas, the State government has been releasing Rs.227.50 crore monthly as grants. Of the Rs.227.50 crore, Rs.210.44 crore are released to Gram Panchayats, Rs.11.37crore to Mandal Parishats and Rs.5.69 crore to Zilla Parishats.

With the State government releasing funds monthly to gram panchayats, villages are taking up various developmental activities like segregation of dry and wet waste, setting up of nurseries, manufacturing vermicompost through waste at the 12,769 sheds.
