Nirmal: Parents of Mallipudi Tejashwini, a Pre University Course second year student from Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge and Technologies (RGUKT)-Basar, who died of leukemia, have demanded that the government take steps to ensure justice for them. They staged a sit-in in front of RGUKT in Basar on Friday.
The bereaved parents claimed that their daughter had no history of leukemia and was diagnosed with the disease after joining the institution. They alleged that officials of the university were not responding to their pleas despite waiting in front of the institution for an hour. Stating that they were not allowed by security guards to enter the campus, they demanded that the government probe into Tejashwini’s death and ensure justice for them.
On March 17, students from the university launched a protest against poor medical amenities on the campus and demanded compensation of Rs 50 lakh for the family members of the student. Tejashwini, a 17-year-old from Ramachandrapuram in Medak district and a Pre-University Course second year student of the university, died reportedly of leukemia while undergoing treatment at Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad on March 16.
