Passenger steals cab after tricking driver in Medipally
A cab driver was allegedly duped by a fake passenger in Medipally after being tricked into leaving his vehicle to buy a cigarette. The suspect drove away with the cab, prompting police to launch an investigation and examine CCTV footage.
Hyderabad: A cab driver was allegedly duped by a man posing as a passenger, who made away with the vehicle after luring the driver out on the pretext of buying a cigarette in Medipally on the suburb.
According to information available, Ch Bhanu Prabhu (26) from Nalgonda district earns his livelihood by operating a rented cab. On June 20, while waiting for passengers near Uppal Ring Road with his Swift Tour CNG vehicle, he was approached by an unidentified man who offered Rs 450 for a trip to Chengicherla.
As the vehicle reached the Medipally village area, the passenger complained of leg pain and requested the driver to buy him a cigarette from a nearby shop. “Trusting the passenger, Bhanu Prabhu parked the car and stepped away. Using the opportunity, the occupant quickly took control of the vehicle and sped away,” police said.
The driver attempted to chase the car but was unsuccessful. He later lodged a complaint with Medipally police, who registered a case and are investigating.
Police are examining CCTV footage from the area to identify and trace the suspect.
