Pawan Sehrawat shares thoughts on new PKL tie-breaker rule and team strategy
Pawan Sehrawat praises the new tie-breaker rule in PKL, calling it interesting and beneficial. He emphasizes teamwork and adaptation, focusing on executing plans based on individual player strengths and team needs
Hyderabad: Tamil Thalaivas Captain Pawan Sehrawat said that the tie-breaker rule was really interesting and good for the sport because it gave a chance to sharpen skills and play on the frontline.
“With this new rule, the team that has five riders on the mat is performing very well. It will be very interesting to see who can perform from the team,” Pawan said during the Media Day chat on JioHotstar.
“These rule changes encourage a do-or-die approach rather than settling for a draw. It’s a positive development for PKL. I find these rules very interesting, and the public is able to understand them easily,” he added.
On team combination and strategy, Pawan said there was no one on paper who was the main raider in the team. “But as a senior player and captain, I have to see which player can perform well in which position,” he said.
“If I feel Arjun Deshwal can score well raiding against a particular defense, it is my duty to send him in. Everyone has different roles, and Arjun is playing his role well. There is no single main raider this season; it’s about executing based on the team’s needs,” Pawan explained.
On his preparation for the season, Pawan said that changes happened automatically every season. “There’s no need for drastic changes, you just polish your skills and stand up to the duty given to you. Now, I am giving 100% to the duty assigned to me. Changes keep happening because the Pawan you saw in Season 3 is not the same Pawan playing in Season 12,” he said.
“The new players you practice with bring new skills, and you learn a lot from them. Skills develop automatically; you just have to refine them. And I am doing that,” Pawan said.
On plans for other teams, he said that all other teams were the same for him, and all matches are challenging. “There’s no single team that’s particularly strong; all teams are performing well. We will plan and play accordingly. We will study their weaknesses and work on ours. We have a strong defense and a strong offense. We will use our defense or attack as per the plan. We discuss it in team meetings and then implement it,” he said.
