Hyderabad: Fourth seed Pawit Sornlaksup of Thailand played a crafty all-court game to beat Manish Suresh Kumar 6-3, 6-1 in the final of the $15,000 ITF Men’s World Tour tennis tournament at the Jubilee Hills International Centre here on Sunday.
After a fabulous run, which included a win over top seed Eric Vanshelboim of Ukraine, it was a disappointing climax for the 26-year-old Manish, who faced an opponent that did not err on the day.
It was the second singles title in the professional circuit for the 26-year-old Pawit, who executed his game plan with assurance, denying Manish the pace he needed to drill his shots.
Manish did bounce back after a slow start by equalising at 3-3 with a break in the sixth game of the first set, much to the jubilation of the fans. But the Thai player was far too sharp to allow any further revival, moving Manish all over the court and unleashing his shots into vacant areas with composure.
It was Pawit’s second victory over Manish in their two meetings in the international circuit.
Jayesh Ranjan, Special Chief Secretary to the Telangana State Government, gave away the prizes.
