Peddapalli: RFCL closes due to increase in Covid cases

Peddapalli: The third wave of corona appears to be rampant in the erstwhile Karimnagar district. Though there was no major threat to human lives with Omicron, the new variant is spreading fast. The number of positive cases in the district have been increasing steadily. All sections of the society including political leaders, government officials, doctors, nursing staff, employees and others have been infected by the virus.

Surprisingly, Ramagundam Fertilizers and Chemicals Limited management reportedly stalled production during the last three days as a number of employees and workers were infected by the virus. Since corona was rampant in the Ramagundam coal belt area, about 50 permanent employees including officials as well as 120 temporary workers of RFCI tested positive for the virus. Since a large number of employees got infected by the virus, the management temporarily suspended production. The RFCL would remain closed for eight more days, source said.

However, RFCL management maintianed that the plant was closed for maintenance purpose. Admitting that RFCL employees have been infected by the virus, they said that the plant was not closed because of an increase in the number of corona cases. The closure for maintenance was a planned activity. There was no connection with the closure of the plant to covid. They were planning to close the plant for some time. Moreover, only 30 employees were infected by the virus. Employees, who were infected by the virus, were joining duty seven days after testing negative, a senior officer of RFCL said on the condition of anonymity.
