Hyderabad: The Secunderabad Government Railway Police (GRP) along with the Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau (TGANB) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) busted an interstate drug racket and caught a drug peddler on charges of smuggling marijuana from Odisha to Maharashtra at the Secunderabad railway station on Thursday.
Officials seized 12.3 kgs of marijuana worth Rs 6.1 lakh. The arrested person was identified as Sameer Bishoyi and the absconding person is Munna Nayak, both native of Odisha.
Police said the suspects who are close friends took to drug peddling for easy money and started procuring marijuana from drug dealers in Odisha and transported them to Maharashtra to be sold to consumers at a higher rate.
They boarded Berhampur railway station and boarded the Konark Express heading toward Secunderabad instead of Dadar to avoid checks in Maharashtra. They concealed the drugs in the luggage which they kept under their seats.
On arriving at the Secunderabad railway station, Sameer was caught with the drugs and Munna Nayak escaped from the spot. Efforts are on to nab him.
