Hyderabad: In a tribute to poet and journalist Pritish Nandy, who passed away at the age of 73, the People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India, on Thursday said that animal lovers have lost a great friend in the ace filmmaker.
“PETA, India along with animals, has lost a great friend with the demise of ace filmmaker Pritish Nandy. A dedicated supporter of PETA India, Pritish Nandy was instrumental in promoting the adoption of community dogs. He appeared in a campaign urging the public to adopt dogs in need, emphasizing the importance of giving them loving homes,” PETA India, Sachin Bangera, VP, Celebrity and Public Relations, PETA India, said.
Pritish Nandy was vocal against the cruelty of Jallikattu, where bulls are subjected to beatings and other harsh treatment. He consistently called for the end of such practices and supported the use of mechanical elephants in temples as a humane alternative to the use of living beings.
His contributions to animal rights and his support for ethical treatment of animals will be remembered by all who knew him. Pritish Nandy’s legacy will live on in new generations; he inspired to advocate for animals and work towards a more compassionate world, PETA India said.
