Hyderabad: Planning to pursue PhD? Here is the opportunity. The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has announced admissions into the PhD programmes. Accordingly, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued a notification inviting applications from eligible candidates.
The PhD admissions are being offered in 23 disciplines and they will be based on an entrance test that will be held in a computer-based mode in 30 test cities including Hyderabad on January 16, 2022.
The test comprises 100 multiple choice questions of which 50 per cent will be on research methodology and 50 per cent on the specific subject selected by the candidate.
The entrance test will be conducted for 400 marks with each question carrying four marks and there will be no negative marks for wrong answers. Students have to complete the test in 180 minutes.
According to the information bulletin issued by the NTA, the applicants should have a master’s degree in relevant discipline from a university recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in the relevant discipline with at least 55 per cent of marks for the general category (50 per cent in the case of SC, ST and OBC (Non-creamy Layer) and Differently-Abled) or its equivalent.
Candidates who secure at least 50 per cent of marks in the entrance test (45 per cent marks in the case of SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy layers) / Differently abled persons) will be shortlisted for the interview in order of merit, subject to the maximum limit of five times of the available seat.
Shortlisted candidates in the entrance test will be called for interview/presentation of synopsis before the discipline-specific doctoral research committee and offer letters for admission will be sent to the selected candidates only. The entrance test will have a weightage of 70 per cent and 30 per cent weightage will be given to the interview/viva.
Interested candidates can register on the website https://ignou.nta.ac.in/ and the last date to apply is December 22. Registration fee is Rs 1,000 for general, OBC-NCL and general-EWS categories, and Rs.800 for SC, ST, PwD and third gender.
