Hyderabad: Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU) observed World Soil Day in collaboration with the State Bank of India, on Saturday.
PJTSAU Vice-Chancellor Dr V Praveen Rao, in his address, said there is a need for a third agricultural revolution for optimum utilisation of modern emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain technologies, drones, sensors, machine learning etc., in the agricultural sector. He said that due to the efforts of agricultural scientists and policymakers, India has achieved self-sufficiency in food grain production and India is exporting about 40 billion dollars worth of food products every year.
However, the misuse of technology and overuse of inputs has to be curtailed to protect soil health. “Crop diversification and crop rotation will enhance the soil health,” he pointed out. SBI Chief General Manager, Amit Jhingran, said the SBI has spent 2.19 lakh crore for agricultural financing in the country to support farmers and the agricultural sector. The bank is committed towards the development of the rural sector of the country, he said.
Prizes were distributed to the students who participated in competitions conducted on the occasion of World Soil Day. SBI officials and university staff, along with the students attended the programme.
