Hyderabad: In a latest development in the POCSO case involving Sai Bageerath, the police have reportedly found that the suspect, allegedly destroyed evidence linked to the investigation.
According to police sources, an additional charge under BNS Section 238 for destruction of evidence has been added against the him.
Police suspect that Bageerath deliberately erased digital evidence while absconding and later surrendering to police as part of a planned move.
During questioning, he allegedly handed over only an empty mobile phone to investigators. When asked about the SIM card, he reportedly claimed he had misplaced it.
Police also suspect that key data, including videos stored on his iPhone, had been deleted, and that his social media accounts were removed to conceal evidence.
Officials said Bageerath’s phone was switched off on the same day the case was registered at Pet-Basheerabad police station, and remained inaccessible until his arrest.
Police believe he may have formatted the device multiple times in an attempt to wipe all traces. Police are now using advanced forensic technology to recover deleted data from the seized phone.
They are also examining call data records and cell tower locations to track his movements while he was on the run and to identify anyone who may have helped him evade arrest or destroy evidence.
