Polling stations go up in Telangana, 32 added in Hyderabad

The Election Commission has approved rationalisation of polling stations in Telangana, increasing the total from 35,985 to 36,353 across 33 districts. Nalgonda district recorded the highest addition with 49 new stations, followed by Hyderabad with 32, while several constituencies saw location changes, nomenclature updates, and mergers.

Hyderabad: Following the rationalisation process, the polling stations have been increased from 35,985 to 36,353 in the State, with 32 new stations to come up in Hyderabad.

In a statement on Wednesday, Telangana Chief Electoral Officer C Sudarshan Reddy said the Election Commission of India approved rationalization of polling stations across 33 districts in Telangana.

According to Reddy, 460 new polling stations have been proposed in the State.  At 49, the highest number of new polling stations are set to come up in Nalgonda district that has six assembly constituencies, which will now have a total of 1,861 stations. It is followed by Hyderabad where 32 new stations have been added, taking the total to 4,094.

In Hyderabad, the highest number of polling stations – 18 – have been added in Bahadurpura Assembly constituency, increasing the total from 263 to 281. The number of polling stations in Karwan and Chandrayangutta Assembly constituencies has gone up from 311 to 316 and 305 to 313 respectively. 

As for Secunderabad Cantonment Assembly constituency, the rationalised list shows one additional polling station, taking the total to 232.

Of the total polling stations in the State, 551 have been proposed for change of location, 335 for change of nomenclature and 92 identified for deletion or merger.
