Poor roads, garbage mar Hyderabad’s Ganesh immersion preparations
Ganesh idol immersion preparations in Hyderabad face setbacks due to damaged roads, poor sanitation, and garbage-strewn immersion spots. Devotees have expressed concern over unclean ponds and ineffective waste clearance, urging GHMC to act swiftly to ensure a clean and safe festive season
Hyderabad: The run-up to Ganesh idol immersions, which take place on a massive scale at water bodies across the city and suburbs, is being marred by poor preparations and inadequate arrangements.
Several roads, badly damaged by the recent incessant rains, are yet to be repaired and restored to ensure smooth passage for idol immersion vehicles. With only a few days left for the centralised immersion procession, many stretches remain scarred with potholes and rain damage.
Sanitation too has taken a hit ahead of the festive season. Garbage clearance continues to be a concern, with roadside piles of accumulated waste left unattended.
Even the ghats at water bodies and the surroundings of artificial ponds prepared for immersion remain littered with garbage. The continuous process of cleaning during immersion activities appears to be missing, leaving spots unkempt.
The GHMC claims to have deployed special sanitation teams at the artificial ponds to remove the waste, but the situation on the ground tells a different story. Similar conditions can be seen along the shorelines of Hussain Sagar.
Devotees have also raised concerns, pointing out that many Ganesh idols remain in ponds uncleared, with garbage piling up around immersion sites. They urged immediate measures to ensure cleanliness and proper waste management for a safe and hygienic festive season.
