Hyderabad: Post office customers in Telangana can now make UPI-based digital payments by scanning QR codes, eliminating the need to pay cash for a range of services such as Speed Post, Registered Post, Parcels, International Mail, and Electronic Money Orders.
This is possible thanks to the adoption of Advanced Postal Technology (APT) 2.0, India Post’s next-generation digital infrastructure upgrade. APT 2.0 aims to modernise postal services, improve efficiency, transparency, and service delivery across all its branches. As part of this initiative, the Telangana Postal Circle is rolling out APT 2.0 at its 32 Head Post Offices, 685 Sub Post Offices, and 4,986 Branch Post Offices across Telangana by the first week of August.
“This initiative aims to modernise the services provided by post offices, making transactions more efficient and user-friendly. With the implementation of the new system, the postal department hopes to set a benchmark for other government services in terms of digital transformation and customer satisfaction,” a senior Telangana Postal Circle official told Telangana Today.
The implementation is expected to bring significant improvements to the postal network, benefiting both urban and rural areas as a customer-friendly step. “We serve our customers, making services more reliable, accessible, and customer-friendly than ever before,” the official added.
Other new features provided to customers under APT 2.0 include end-to-end consignment tracking with real-time SMS updates from booking through delivery. Additionally, more reliable delivery information is updated as photo proof of remarks is captured in real-time. A facility for bulk customer support with self-booking and integrated UPI payment is also available.
The Telangana Postal Circle rolled out this new IT initiative on July 8 as a pilot in 4 Head Post Offices, 105 Sub Post Offices, and 453 Branch Post Offices across Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Nalgonda, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, and parts of Medchal-Malkajgiri districts. The pilot also included 17 mail offices and 23 administrative offices.
