Hyderabad: Shiv Pratap Shukla was sworn in as the Governor of Telangana on Wednesday at a ceremony held at Raj Bhavan. Telangana High Court Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh administered the oath of office. Shukla took the oath in Telugu, drawing attention at the event attended by senior political leaders and officials.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar, Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy, Ministers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs and senior bureaucrats were present. Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao, DGP B Shivdhar Reddy and other top officials also attended the ceremony.
Former Himachal Pradesh Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, State Congress president Mahesh Kumar Goud and BJP State president Ramchander Rao were among those present.
Shukla replaced Jishnu Dev Varma, who was transferred as Governor of Maharashtra in the recent reshuffle of Governors by the Centre. Varma had taken charge as Telangana Governor in July 2024.
President Droupadi Murmu appointed Shukla to the post last week. He had been serving as Governor of Himachal Pradesh before being shifted to Telangana. With his swearing-in, he becomes the fourth Governor of Telangana since the formation of the State in 2014.
Shukla has a political career spanning nearly four decades. He served as a four-time MLA in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, was a member of the Rajya Sabha and also worked as Minister of State for Finance during the first term of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He arrived in Hyderabad on Tuesday and was received at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.
The new Governor is scheduled to address a joint sitting of both Houses of the State Legislature on March 16, the opening day of the Budget session.
