Hyderabad: The Department of Posts has come to the rescue of people, particularly those living in rural areas of Telangana State, to register for Covid vaccination. People having a problem with registration for vaccination can now approach post offices.

As many people in rural areas don’t have smartphones, the department came up with this free service to help people register and get an appointment for the Covid-19 vaccination being carried out by the State government. And even if they do have one, most of them have difficulty in accessing the CO-WIN App due to various reasons, including network issues.

People in rural areas are generally not very comfortable using mobile apps. Even in urban areas, many people including workers in different fields do not have the sources (limited mobile data) to access the app to register their names for vaccination.

This is where post offices with special access to the app stepped in to serve such people. The post offices assist people, particularly in rural areas, register for vaccination, K Venkata Rami Reddy, Assistant Director, Postmaster General office, Headquarters Region, said in a press release on Sunday.

Currently, this service has been launched in 36 Head Post Offices, 643 Sub Post Offices and 10 Branch Post Offices in Hyderabad Headquarters Region and Hyderabad Region in Telangana Circle. In the next phase, about 800 more branch post offices will be included in this service.

People have to reach the post office with the prescribed photo ID card and mobile phone, where the registration process will be completed through a one-time password. The Postal Department staff will use the Co-WIN application from the BO-CSC through a mobile app, for which no service charges will be collected and the public can avail the facility free of cost.
